Global Rights is an international human rights capacity-building non-governmental organization (NGO). Global Rights was founded in Washington DC, USA in 1978 with the name International Human Rights Law Group and changed its name to Global Rights: Partners for Justice in 2003 at its 25th anniversary. Global Rights works with local activists in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to promote and protect the rights of marginalized populations. We provide technical assistance and training to enable local partners document and expose human rights abuses, conduct community outreach and mobilization, advocate for legal and policy reform, and provide legal and paralegal services.

 

Job Description

This is a remote position.

Scope: Development of a book on Global Rights 45 years impact across the Globe.

Location: Remote

Background:

Global Rights is a foremost human rights and governance capacity-building non-governmental organization (NGO) that has been operating for the past 45 years. The organization works at the intersection of the protection, promotion and fulfilment of human rights through good governance. We provide technical assistance and training to enable local partners to document and expose human rights abuses, conduct community outreach and mobilization, advocate for legal and policy reform, and provide legal and paralegal services.

As part of our efforts to document and showcase the achievements and impact of Global Rights, we are commissioning a consultant to interview stakeholders/partners and compile their stories into a book. Additionally, the book will be transformed into a vlog series to reach a wider audience.

Objectives:

  1. To document and highlight Global Rights’ achievements and impact over the past 45 years through the experiences and stories of former staff members, stakeholders and partners.

  2. To compile these stories into a compelling narrative that serves as a testament to Global Rights’ dedication and contributions to human rights causes globally.

  3. To create a vlog series based on the stories gathered from former staff members, making the content accessible and engaging for a broader audience.

Scope of Work:

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with former staff members of Global Rights who have played significant roles in Global Rights’ work over the years.

  • Capture personal narration, success stories, challenges faced, and the impact of Global Rights’ initiatives from the perspectives of former staff members, partners and stakeholders.

  • Compile the insights gathered from interviews into a compelling narrative that reflects the ethos, achievements, and evolution of Global Rights as an organization.

  • Ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and sensitivity in portraying the experiences and contributions of former staff members, partners and stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Global Rights’ communications team to develop a vlog series format that effectively translates the content of the book into engaging video content.

Deliverables:
  • A well-researched and written book documenting the achievements and impact of Global Rights over the last 45 years, based on the interviews. 

  • A series of professionally produced vlog episodes that capture the essence of the book’s content and engage viewers with the stories of Global Rights’ work.

  • Any supplementary materials or documentation related to the project as required.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting interviews, writing, and storytelling, particularly in the context of human rights or social justice issues.

  • Strong research and communication skills, with the ability to capture and articulate complex narratives in a clear and engaging manner.

  • Familiarity with video production or multimedia storytelling is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.

Timeline: The consultancy will be conducted over a period of 12 weeks.

Intellectual Property Rights:

All intellectual property rights arising from the consultancy will be the property of Global Rights. The consultant will not disclose or use any confidential information obtained during the consultancy for any other purpose without the written consent of Global Rights.

Confidentiality and Ethical Considerations:

The consultant will ensure that all data and information collected during the consultancy is treated with the utmost confidentiality and in accordance with ethical principles. In particular, the consultant will ensure that data and information collected are stored securely and only accessible to authorized personnel. The team will also comply with relevant legal and ethical standards and report any ethical concerns or violations to Global Rights immediately.

Reporting:

The consultant will report to the Executive Director

Proposal Submission:

  • Interested consultants are invited to submit a detailed proposal outlining their approach, relevant experience, proposed timeline, and budget considerations. 

  • Travel expenses, if applicable, will be covered separately by Global Rights

  • The proposal should include the biodata/CV of the lead consultant
