La Organización de los Estados Americanos y dos de sus más importantes órganos – La Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (La Comisión) y la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (La Corte) son los principales mecanismos regionales dedicados a la promoción y protección de los derechos humanos en las Américas. Estos órganos proveen de foros donde las organizaciones no gubernamentales (ONGS) pueden hacer que sus gobiernos entren en discusiones sobre derechos humanos, hagan incidencia para la promoción y protección de esos derechos y busquen solucionar las violaciones individuales y colectivas de derechos humanos.
Global Rights provee de asistencia técnica a las organizaciones de la sociedad civil afro latinas sobre cómo hacer un trabajo efectivo de incidencia ante la OEA y sus distintos órganos; facilitando reuniones entre nuestras contrapartes y representantes gubernamentales; a través de la solicitud de audiencias temáticas ante la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos; ayudando a nuestras contrapartes a presentar casos sobre discriminación racial frente a la Comisión. Hoy, Global Rights es reconocida como una organización que fortalece la capacidad institucional de nuestras contrapartes y ha participado activamente junto con organizaciones afrodescendientes para buscar la aprobación y ratificación de una Convención Interamericana contra el Racismo y Toda Forma de Discriminación e Intolerancia, que esperamos que una vez ratificada, promueva y proteja la igualdad racial y étnica en las Américas.
