"Plight of the Displaced", a documentary Global Rights filmed and premiered in our Rights of Citizens In Armed Conflict Workshop
A look at consequences and fatalities as a direct result of official inaction and complicity in illegal mining activities exposed in Shikira, Niger State, Nigeria. No less than 28 children died in 2015 as a result of lead poisoning of the community by the mining activities. There had indeed been several concerted and coordinated calls to action by Global Rights on this travesty.
Coal provides 40 percent of the world’s electricity and 39 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions which is largely responsible for the green gas emissions that are rapidly depleting the Earth’s ozone layer and directly causing the increased warming of the earth – a phenomenon that threatens our collective existence on this planet. The question we must now ask ourselves is: Do the environmental effects of coal mining justify its continued use?
